PROPOSITION 50 AUTHORIZES TEMPORARY CHANGES TO CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT MAPS IN RESPONSE TO TEXAS’ PARTISAN REDISTRICTING. LEGISLATIVE CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT.

What’s it mean? Where did it come from?

Prop 50 is Governor Newsom’s move to invalidate Texas’s mid-cycle gerrymandering of their congressional maps to ensure that Republicans maintain control of the House of Representatives. Newsom developed Prop 50 as an emergency response to hopefully provide some checks and balances to the President’s sweep of all three branches of government, including a Supreme Court that has issued multiple rulings including presidential immunity that have shielded him from multiple legal actions and expanded executive power.

Translation: Red states are doing all they can to ensure they maintain control of the House. Newsom wants to counterbalance this.

What should I do?

Vote YES. Desperate times call for desperate measures. Any port in the storm. You have to do what you have to do. Sink or swim. No rules when the house is on fire. Whatever it takes. I think you get the message. We’ve got an authoritarian regime that’s thrown all the laws out the window — putting soldiers on American soil, stopping the government from operating, arresting legal citizens with masked operatives in our streets, cutting healthcare subsidies, sleeping with billionaires, pulling funding from science, dismissing any efforts toward equity and equality, is blatantly racist and sexist, tearing down the White House for a self-serving ballroom, etc etc etc… could go on and on.

ELECTION DAY IS NOVEMBER 4th. YOUR BALLOT IS IN YOUR MAILBOX. COLOR IN THE “YES” CIRCLE. SIGN AND DATE IT. DROP IT BACK IN YOUR MAILBOX OR INTO YOUR LOCAL BALLOT BOX. TELL YOUR FRIENDS. TELL YOUR FAMILY. TELL THEM ALL AGAIN.
